About Peter T. Zacharia, MD

After completing his residency training in ophthalmology and subspecialty fellowship training in glaucoma, Dr. Zacharia joined the faculty of the University of Massachusetts, Department of Ophthalmology.  When the opportunity came to acquire an international ophthalmology experience, Dr. Zacharia moved his family to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia where he spent 2 years as one of the glaucoma specialists on staff at the King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital.  This is a large tertiary care eye hospital staffed by highly trained ophthalmologists, residency and fellowship trained in all subspecialties at American and other prestigious international institutions.  The high complexity and level of disease encountered at this institution, which is the source of a large volume of published research each year, is rivaled by few institutions internationally.

After leaving Riyadh, Dr. Zacharia practiced in Wheeling, West Virginia before being recruited to join his current practice which was in continuous operation for nearly 40 years before he took over the practice and subsequently renamed it Worcester Eye Consultants.

Dr. Zacharia has a subspecialty interest in the diagnosis and medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma.  As a glaucoma specialist he also performs cataract surgery in addition to several different glaucoma surgical procedures and other surgery involving lens implants.  Dr. Zacharia has been involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellow ophthalmologists  and often has students and residents from various institutions observing in his practice.  He has lectured on and authored articles related to glaucoma and cataract surgery.

Dr. Zacharia lives in Central Massachusetts with his family and especially enjoys outdoor activities with family and friends.  He has always had a passion for cycling and has ridden across the United States on his bicycle and hopes to do so again in the future.
